About the beginning of January 1897 all of
鎏
the Police Inspectors, myself included were invited to a Chi-
nese feast at the large Chinese Restaurant at the corner of
Ng Kwai Fong and Hollywood Road. I did not go, but I was in-
formed that nearly all of the Police Inspectors and a number
of Sergeants besides a number of the officers of the Magis-
tracy were present, and that that the feast was given by the
Gambling House masters of Wah Lane and Cheung Hing Street.
I also know that Inspector Baker made it a practice of go-
ing to Inspector Stanton's quarters every Sunday afternoon,
and also that Chinese Constable Yeung Fat went there regu-
larly every Sunday at noon. He was supposed to collect the
money for them. No doubt but Shan Yune the Accountant of the
Gambling House could give you further information as to the
names of all the Police Officers who were present at the
gambling feast in January. There is also another matter in
connection with the prosecution of the Firemen for being ab
sent from the New Street fire, and Sergeant Macaulay can in-
form you who advised them to engage legal advice and fight
it out. By giving the information contained in this paper I
do not solicit any mitigation of my sentence. I have done it
purely from the dictates of conscience, and to free myself
from the worry of it. Praying that you will be so good as to
cause His Excellency the Governor, the Chief Justice, and Ju-
rymen, to be informed of my admittance of my guilt, and as
·
you
